Meet Lilian Benita Mboyi, a Cape Town based Life Coach, Mentor, Facilitator and Communications Specialist. Founder of The Girl in the Mirror organization.
In her childhood she experienced both emotional and physical abuse. The Rhodesian war brought physical displacement, a change in fortunes, bullying and rejection. What she experienced shaped who she became. She was driven by a deep sense to thrive. The buckets of motherly love nurtured her. Laughter became her constant companion; it was the nectar that quenched and sustained her.
Books were the tools that she used as sanctuaries to escape from the poverty and the pain. Through dreaming big she could mentally remove herself from the pain of her reality. She kept journals, a tool her mother provided from a young age. In her words she says, “The support, love and constant assurance of my mother buoyed me. With the tools that I was given, I learnt to navigate life. I learnt not to crumble in defeat. I learnt not to cower under threat. I learnt to be strong inside.”
Lilian has over 30 years’ working experience in various corporations in South Africa mostly as a Communications Specialist. She is a certified life coach, trained by the internationally acclaimed Marianne Williamson. Working with women has been her passion since childhood. She was exposed to the values and positive benefits of this work through her role model, her mother, whose career was mostly focused on rural women development.
